xoxo – Gossip Girl

7 01 2009

“XOXO Gossip Girl”. This infamous line is uttered each time an episode ends by the anonymous narrator of the hit TV series, Gossip Girl. Anyway, this post won’t be one of those fan blurbs instead this will plainly be about gossip. Yes, good old chismis.

Filipinos are quite fond of chismis which is why talk shows like “The Buzz” and “Entertainment Live” have such high ratings. People are generally interested about what’s the latest happening in the showbiz industry both local and international. Normal people, such as myself, would want a sneak peak of the glamorous life of the celebrities. Often, we would want to know about their flaw apart from their god and goddess like physic and status – so that we can feel good about our normal meandering lives (**evil grin**). Other than that we are just plainly interested of the their almost surreal lifestyle since these celebrities we have come to know have also become quite important to us (the degree varies).

Most individuals, especially women, often enjoy being “social aware”. We pass stories among friends and families that we can fondly relate to. Apparently, loving to gossip is not something that we should be ashamed of nor should it be something that we yearly add to our new year’s resolution as part of the habits we want to get rid. To gossip is our human nature. It is something we can’t avoid since it is embedded in the core of our psyche.

Other than we are just being human, gossip need not be all that bad since evidently a session of gossip can promote bonding. We need something to talk about so why not talk about someone who’s not here!

Please check out the article on the Science of Gossip. It’s pretty interesting. If you have thoughts that you want to share – express it here.

Cosmopolitan and Playboy. What do they have in common?

20 04 2008

“Playboy addresses men and Cosmopolitan addresses women, yet the visual rhetorics of both magazines reflect the male gaze and promote the idea that women should primarily concern themselves with attracting and sexually satisfying men.” Read more about this article.

Please Pray

3 04 2008

Earlier this morning, my grandmother got admitted for Hemorrhagic stroke. I found her lying on the floor after I heard a loud banging noise inside her room. She can’t move her left arm and leg, and she could barely pronounce the words she uttered. That was my first time to ever see my lola so vulnerable and helpless.

Out of the symtoms mentioned, these are the only ones present.

  • Weakness; inability to move a body part
  • Numbness, she expressly said that her lef arm and leg felt numb
  • Speech difficulties
  • Sudden headache
  • sleepiness

One of the prime cause of her stroke is her high blood pressure. When my sister took her BP right after her fall, it was 200 / 90. “Most often, hemorrhagic stroke is associated with high blood pressure, which stresses the artery walls until they break.

I am asking you guys to pray for my grandma that she may regain her strength soon. She is currently in the ICU since the doctor would like to closely monitor her progress. Please help me pray that she may have a longer life and a healthy one as well.

There are a lot of things in my head. My lola, work, dogs and stuffs that my “good” aunt told me about. Stuffs that mostly concerns me, my mom, and my siblings. Family matters as I’ve said is complicated especially when dealing with my mom’s family and relatives.

I always feel right on doing the things that I do, and I wonder right then there when words fell from my aunt’s mouth, if I am really doing the right things now. Have I been a good person? I have been, at least from my perspective. (I am again thinking too much)

Apologize

15 03 2008

I have been listening to “Apologize” from One Republic. At first, I couldn’t appreciate the song but after several playbacks and after viewing the youtube video, I was at awe.

I like the quality of the video for one. I love the symbolic elements that depicts remorse, anger and pain. I especially love the vocalist’s passionate expression when singing. You can feel those 3 strong emotions (remorse, anger, and pain) even if you’re only listening to the song.

All in all, I love the drama in this video.

Below is the live version of the video Apologize. Again, such drama. Although the vocalist’s voice was shaky, still you’d have to give their performace a 10. I love the stage set-up, especially the lights. I got goosebumps all over when the stage shone really bright with the heart shape lights. Very romantic, I should say, looking at the vocalist’s face, it felt like he was singing this song to me. Grin – yes, girls will be girls…

Comic Strip

10 03 2008

I stumbled upon this site wherein you can conveniently create your very own comic strip. Below is the comic strip I made.

Only Andrew and Xeny can understand this quirky antic so you might or might not find this funny. But to them, this is hilarious.
