Save The Honey Bees

25 04 2008

This is another Psyop project for Hagen Daaz. This 30 second spot is a compact tale of unrequited love of a bee and a flower set with an operatic soundtrack that only adds drama to the ever glamorously made 3d animation. I kinda wish this was a :60 instead of a :30 spot, though. The voiceover at the near end sounded like I’m late for a business meeting so quickly give me back my change.

“Imagine the world without tasty pears, luscious raspberries and juicy strawberries. Honey bees are responsible for the one-third of all the foods we eat, including the many ingredients that define our all-natural favorite ice-creams. “

Let’s help save the Honey bees dear readers! Since I’m not a beekeeper nor are you, let’s get educated on how, in our own ways, how to help save the honeybees. Let’s spread the word .

Yesterday was Earth Day

23 04 2008

Yesterday, was our only planet’s day and I was stuck in the office. Not the Earth day I have imagined at least for myself. However despite that I didn’t get to join lobby groups or planted tress with my fellow youths (which what I would have wanted to do) I would still like to give a small contribution, although late, in raising environment awareness.

As I continuously watch the news and surf the web, the facts on our Earth’s degradation and abuse caused by us, the supposed to be stewards of this only planet, are overwhelming. Figures on carbon emission is rising every year and the forecast of the coming decades are frightening.

Let us make Earth Day not as a symbolic celebration filled with empty rhetoric, but a day-to-day occurrence in our choices, habits and actions for a more sustainable environment for our children and our children’s children.

Below are 8 simple things that you can do to contribute in our cause for the Earth.

  1. Understand what’s going on with our environment. Research on pollution and its causes. Recognize the bad to know what not to do.
  2. Join environment groups in your local community. If you don’t go out much, you can join online environment communities. Being with like minded individuals allows you to understand and delve into the issue more.
  3. Recycle. Know the word and then do it. Segregate your garbage. Don’t throw out those old newspapers, ketchup bottles, plastic coke bottles and such. You can store them for the mean time, and later on sell them or give them to “we buy scrap” entrepreneurs. See, you can still make money out of garbage.
  4. Conserve water. Don’t waste it, it’s a precious gift that will run out eventually if we don’t use it properly.
  5. If you are going to a nearby place, opt to walk or use a bicycle rather than use a vehicle that emit carbon monoxide.
  6. Use fresh food as much as possible. Avoid eating too much processed food or fast food. These type of food usually contribute to a gain in weight and to the amount of trash.
  7. Don’t buy things that you don’t need. Things that you usually buy out of plain envy or want will usually just go to the trash or be left unused after a few months.
  8. Conserve Energy. Turn off the lights, the fan, the aircon, TV, radio, etc. whenever you’re not in the room, you’re not using it or if the need is not immediate.

Let’s be proactive in solving Earth’s issue. After all, we only have one planet and her name is Earth.

My 7 Summer Must-do List

31 03 2008
  1. Go to the beach. This is my number 1 must do for this summer and I guess for many people also. This is mostly what’s summer is all about, going to the beach and get a mad tan. Despite my hectic work schedule, I plan on slipping a day or two for my beach going and sunbathing experience.
  2. Tree planting. The Earth hour event recently happened however Earth day is still coming. I have been at most 2 Earth day events and it was really fun. We planted trees under scorching heat, immersed with different communities and got to know a lot of people who share my advocacy. I am doing the same thing this summer.
  3. Get a new bikini. My number 1 must do wouldn’t be complete without a new set of bikini. I plan on flaunting my now lean body due to stress when I go sunbathing.
  4. Dinner out with old friends. Now that I’m working, I have recently lost touch with many good friends. A simple get together dinner with college friends and high school pals and talking about the latest buzz of our lives is surely a summer treat I look forward to.
  5. Go to Simala. For those who doesn’t know, Simala is a Pilgrim’s paradise, you can read more about it at this blog. Although, I’ve been there once last February, I plan on going there around this May before or after my birthday. I would just like to thank the Lord for all the blessings He has given me. His generosity sometimes make me question if I truly deserve all this.
  6. Barbecue Party. This party will be my birthday party. I plan on lots of drinking and eating… It’s going to be a “partey”! :)
  7. Bring dogs to the Vet. Their check up is long over due. I’m doing it this summer. I only hope I have the time.

Earth Hour

30 03 2008

Thanks to Rico, who pointed me to Bayanihan Blog wherein I got so inspired to say what I needed to say about our degrading environment. This was supposed to be a comment for the post they had on Earth Hour.

“Global warming is getting worse and we have to do our share… Hmmm, I didn’t get to participate and fully experience Earth hour since I was out along the roads of Cebu but still I was all teary eyed seeing one shop with a candlelight. I told my BF, “Earth Hour”, with a very huge grin. Although, I didn’t get the chance to turn off all our lights at home, God knows what my grandma would think since she wouldn’t then get to see her Kapamilya shows, I can still do my fair share in our fight for global warming… A simple turning off the lights an hour each day, can really help a lot.”

Last March 29, Manila participated at the annual Earth Hour event. This was the first time that the Philippines, well Manila although Cebu roughly switched off some lights, joined the 23-city event. During the Earth hour event, everyone was urged to turn off the lights for 60 minutes. The Earth hour event serves as a call for action. We must show concern for our only Earth and make sure that our children and our children’s children will still benefit this beautiful world. Earth Hour as I said is a call for action, what are you waiting for? Let’s act now. I already signed up for Earth hour 2009. How about you?

Be a part of change my dear readers. Let’s act together. Let’s make Earth hour a part of our everyday lives. (I’m, again, teary eyed)
