Preoccupied

31 05 2008

This week has been like a marathon for me. The office has been stressful since we have started out with telemarketing this week. I’ve got to say that cold calling is not for me. Telemarketing is not the only thing I’m dealing. The things I juggle at the office vary between office politics, link whoring and writing. After work is not an option for relaxation as well since I still have a freelance writing job to comply with. Yep, I am overly preoccupied. Sometimes I get downright dizzy but most of the time I am just out of focused.

I rarely have some me time and I just realized that I have been missing out a lot lately. I miss reading good books and DVD marathons the most. When I have some available time, I usually use it for sleeping or going out with James (this is a perk that I enjoy the most). But I still wish I have more time to waste on reading books and whole day DVD marathons. There sure is a difference of living to make a living and living to make a life. The later is more enjoyable and far more satisfying. :) Are you with me on this?

With the continuous crisis that many of us face, I guess living to make a living is the most logical option especially if you have responsibilities to deal with. It’s a sad fact that many are facing. But on the other hand it depends on the perception of the person. This is just me talking. If you have anything to add, please do enlighten us.

Graphic Endeavors for the Day

25 05 2008

After the countless hours of writing, I needed this break. After I transfered the pictures from the digicam, I had started having fun with Photoshop. I edited the pictures of my sisters and dogs to my fancy and below are the results.

Respectively, we have here (a) Coffee and Yoda, (b) Zelma, and (c) A.K.A “Tisha”. For Coffee and Yoda, I gave the photo a Polaroid effect, for Zelma a surreal like effect and for Tisha, obviously, the scary look effect (Believe me guys, she is pretty in person).

Want to make your own graphic endeavor? Vote for the pictures you’d like to learn how to make. After the end of the week once I tally the votes, I will make a tutorial for the picture who garnered the most votes. I’ll be featuring this tutorial in my other blog, vigoureuxartiste.

So what editing technique would you like to learn? A, B or C?  To vote, just send in your comments and give me the letters or title of the photos…

The “F” Word

23 05 2008

I personally don’t mind cuss words. However I do find it rude and appropriate inappropriate when you use such words to other people, especially on your colleagues.

Early this morning, when I arrived in the office I was surprised to see this bond paper with some chicken handwriting on it. Basically it was reprimanding us to don’t forget to turn off the aircon before going home. The concern was noble and fairly correct however the approach is wrong. Telling employees to turn off the F***ING aircon and use the F***KING remote is a gesture of profanity and an apparent lack of management finesse.

Reasoning that this is just you when mad is not an excuse. Don’t expect everyone to follow your terms without any objective basis because in business, business is business. There is a thin line, I guess, between business and personal life and pseudo-business people should start using it.

The effect of a cuss word when directed at employees can be demoralizing at some point. You are no longer correcting the action you are already bawdily berating. Trying to assert that you are this person that way, is embarrassing for your part and, in the long run, you don’t earn the respect of everyone.

Do you have everything?

20 05 2008

I stumbled into this blog since I have been tinkering with entrecard for this past hour. One post got my attention, it is actually one huge image of a man in a contemplating of some sort position. The image has this caption:

If you look at what you don’t have in life; you don’t have anything. If you look at what you have in life; you have everything.

The message is so short yet very profound. It asks us to look at the glass half full rather than half empty. I think I have some glass proverbs somewhere in this blog, ahh here. My not so old post on looking at the bright side of things when pissed off. It’s quite funny that we often notice what we don’t have in life. We whine a lot about it. I know I complain a lot. Last night I realized, I complain a lot even before I get to understand the entire situation first and I know a lot of people who do the same.

This short phrase talks about contentment and finding the joy in what you have. When you are envious, tendency is you are never happy. When you look for something  you don’t have, you end up feeling frustrated at many points in your life. Our wants are insatiable which is why it is important to recognize what we have and like I said so many times not take it for granted.

What contemplations do you have on this matter?

James’ Gift

18 05 2008

This is the work given by James to me for my birthday. He has a white and black version of this, but he printed out only black. I have both soft copies though. *grin* He did this using photoshop and the words he used for this are the words found in this very blog. It was very sweet of him and at least I had my reaction right this time. Apparently, most of my reactions are not what he expects I would show. This perfectly epitomizes the phrase, “if a picture paints a thousand words”. What do you think?
