Earth Hour

30 03 2008

Thanks to Rico, who pointed me to Bayanihan Blog wherein I got so inspired to say what I needed to say about our degrading environment. This was supposed to be a comment for the post they had on Earth Hour.

“Global warming is getting worse and we have to do our share… Hmmm, I didn’t get to participate and fully experience Earth hour since I was out along the roads of Cebu but still I was all teary eyed seeing one shop with a candlelight. I told my BF, “Earth Hour”, with a very huge grin. Although, I didn’t get the chance to turn off all our lights at home, God knows what my grandma would think since she wouldn’t then get to see her Kapamilya shows, I can still do my fair share in our fight for global warming… A simple turning off the lights an hour each day, can really help a lot.”

Last March 29, Manila participated at the annual Earth Hour event. This was the first time that the Philippines, well Manila although Cebu roughly switched off some lights, joined the 23-city event. During the Earth hour event, everyone was urged to turn off the lights for 60 minutes. The Earth hour event serves as a call for action. We must show concern for our only Earth and make sure that our children and our children’s children will still benefit this beautiful world. Earth Hour as I said is a call for action, what are you waiting for? Let’s act now. I already signed up for Earth hour 2009. How about you?

Be a part of change my dear readers. Let’s act together. Let’s make Earth hour a part of our everyday lives. (I’m, again, teary eyed)

5 quick ways to de-stress yourself

30 03 2008

Lately I have been working non-stop. Aside from my regular work that’s from 9 am to 5:30 pm. I currently have another freelance job that starts around 6 pm to 10. Currently, I have no life at all. It has been recently all about my computer, the internet and a lot, and I do mean, a lot of writing. I do my freelance work not only because for the money but secretly, I’m a workaholic. However, I take a few relaxation trips to renew my already sagging energy.

Below are just quick tips on how to unwind and refresh yourself.

  1. Look at something green. After long hours of starring at your computer screen, looking at green plants have been scientifically proven to be relaxing for the eyes.
  2. If you experience those days wherein you just feel utterly tired and unfocused, well, take a quick walk. I usually walk to the nearest star mart and buy myself a refreshing pineapple juice.
  3. Listen to your favorite music. I do this at work. Every morning after checking my email, I usually go to this online streaming site called radioblogclub. I have bookmarked some of my favorite playlist so that it would be very for me to find it. Whenever, I can’t handle the pressure or I feel so stressed out already, I always sing my heart out and at the top of my lungs.
  4. Drink water. We need to replace the water lost from sweating, tears and the body’s heating and cooling system on a continuous basis. Dehydration is associated with decreased energy, increased hunger, tiredness, and aging wrinkled skin. In addition to actually drinking water, you can eat more water-based foods, like fresh fruits and vegetables for hydration.
  5. Cuteoverload.com. This is my recent destresser. Cuteoverload is a blog that contains cute videos and pictures on animals and anything that’s cute.
